DESTINATION: San Diego, CA
VISITED: 05/06 INTRODUCTION: San Diego is much more relaxed than I thought it would be initially. The beach life makes the atmosphere very benevolent. The weather makes outdoor recreation popular as well as outdoor dining and open, airy Spanish villas. There is also culture and recreation like Balboa Park which is full of beauty and knowledge. And God, the food is some of the best I've had in the country. ACTVITIES: My fiancee and I purchased a Go San Diego Card and used the card to get into the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park and Balboa Park Musuems. The San Diego Zoo was amazing but Wild Animal Park was complete different from anything I'd seen. It was a short drive out of the city but completely worth it. I would recommend it to anyone. I loved the 60 minute monorail ride included with admission--but definately go on the walking tours which take you on a short hike throughout the park. They are self-guided and fun to do. The nursery area had bottle fed animals and a petting station! Great fun. As for other San Diego activities spend time on the beach! The Go Boston Card comes with some beach rentals which we took advantage of at La Jolla, and also be sure to check out Torrey Pines--beautiful beach and it's fun to golf too. ACCOMMODATIONS: I stayed at at the Bed & Breakfast at La Jolla. It was moderately priced for the area and had it's own San Diego flair. Beautiful historical lodging dating back to 1920, cozy library, enclosed gardens well gardened--it was a dream. Gourmet breakfast in included with your stay and is served whenever and wherever you want. You can also get picnic baskets if you ask a day in advance. We took advantage of this when we had a picnic on the beach. DINING: George's at the Cove---beautiful view and defiantely a place to go if you're in town on a special ocasion. The food was inventive and like nothing I'd hever had before. We tried the five-course sampling for 55$ a person because we didn't know where to start. TRANSPORTATION: Car, the only way to travel in San Diego!
